Canberra Airport has continued typical tasks and a man is in care after a shooting occurrence inside the terminal provoked its departure.

A man was captured at the air terminal in the wake of shooting upwards of five shots inside, some leaving slug openings in air terminal windows, soon after 1.30 pm on Sunday.

The man was taken to a Canberra police headquarters, with the gun seized by officials.

Police are yet to lay out an intention behind the episode, however, ACT Detective Acting Superintendent Dave Craft said the shots were not focused on anybody.

Officials are yet to give the name or age of the man, yet Det Supt Craft said he was accepted to be the main individual answerable for the occurrence.

Det Supt Craft said the man didn't go through air terminal security and sat close to the registration counters before shooting shots at the windows.

The air terminal was emptied soon after the shooting occurrence, with parts of the terminal secured.

Travelers who had loaded up planes were stuck in the landing area for a really long time before being permitted to land.

The air terminal continued typical tasks before 5 pm. "Kindly check your itinerary items straightforwardly with your carrier if you are voyaging today," its administration said in a tweet.

Police said there was no continuous danger to the local area or different travelers.

Top state leader Anthony Albanese said he had been informed of the air terminal episode.

Finance Minister and ACT congressperson Katy Gallagher said she had been stunned by the occasion.
